Pogrebinsky predicts a big scandal due to the “Steinmeier formula”
Current processes between Russia and Ukraine create the preconditions for increasing the level of trust, but it will be very difficult to convene a meeting of the Normandy Four before the end of September.
Mikhail Pogrebinsky, director of the Kyiv Center for Political Studies and Conflict Studies, told Izvestia.
He believes that if Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky agrees to follow the path of implementing the “Steinmeier formula”, then the “Normandy format” will come together quite quickly.
“You don’t have to do anything yet, but already express your consent to move on the previously agreed points. In addition, Macron and Merkel are in favor of an early meeting. In any case, if everything goes like this, a big scandal will break out inside Ukraine. The war party categorically does not accept the special status of Donbass,” Pogrebinsky believes.
Let us recall that the “Steinmeier formula” determines the mechanism for enacting the law on a special procedure for local self-government in certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions on a temporary basis on election day, and on a permanent basis after the publication of the OSCE report on their results.
