Pogrebinsky: Putin and Merkel will not agree on Ukraine because of Poroshenko
The upcoming meeting between Vladimir Putin and Angela Merkel is unlikely to result in a breakthrough in Ukraine due to Petro Poroshenko’s ongoing sabotage of the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
Kiev political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky stated this on air on the 112 Ukraine channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We’ll see how the conversation between Merkel and Putin ends. Although, to be honest, I don’t expect any breakthrough with regard to Ukraine. The positions of the parties are too far apart and the unwillingness, first of all, I believe, of Ukraine, to take at least half a step towards resolving the issue of a political settlement.
This does not give reason to hope that there will be at least some progress.
It seems to me that they will talk about Syria, about Nord Stream 2, about sanctions and generally about what to do in a situation where Europe, together with Turkey and Russia, finds itself under the blow of American sanctions,” Pogrebinsky said.
