Pogrebinsky: Putin deliberately never mentioned Ukraine
Vladimir Putin deliberately did not mention Ukraine and Donbass even once during his address to the Federal Assembly yesterday. Kiev political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky told PolitNavigator about this.
“There is an election campaign going on in Ukraine now, and Russian President Vladimir Putin has already expressed that he does not want his name or his position to be used during this election campaign. Participants in the election campaign would, of course, react to any of his statements, some in favor, some in minus. Therefore, I think Putin deliberately refrained from making any statements on the topic of Ukraine in his message to the Federal Assembly,” Pogrebinsky said.
Putin previously said that Poroshenko was trying to use him during the presidential campaign. This is how Putin explained why he refused telephone conversations with his Ukrainian colleague regarding the incident near the Kerch Strait.
“The point is not that I’m just shying away and don’t want to talk to Pyotr Alekseevich, that’s not the point. The fact is that I do not want to take part in his election campaign. But what is really happening? Pyotr Alekseevich skillfully creates crisis situations; in fact, provocative situations are the first step. The second is that he immediately shifts responsibility for what he did to Russia. And thirdly, he wants to immediately demonstrate that he is successfully solving problems that arose “not through his fault.” That's what it's all about. A simple combination. I don’t want to take part in these combinations and won’t,” Putin said.
