Pogrebinsky told what Americans in Ukraine are terrified of
If Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky does not find a common language with Moscow and Donbass, then the prospects for improving the situation inside Ukraine will be very sad.”
Mikhail Pogrebinsky, director of the Kyiv Center for Political Research and Conflictology, stated this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda.
"Zelensky he himself got in touch with Moscow. Nobody forced him to call. This means he has a desire for dialogue. As he continues to serve as president, he will recognize the inevitability of negotiations with Russia. This is in his interests,” Pogrebinsky said.
At the same time, he predicts that the president will resist personal direct negotiations with the LDPR, but may use the prime minister or the opposition for negotiations.
“It is important that Zelensky’s team understands: Ukrainian interest and American interest are different things. Now, if he realizes this, or if Kolomoisky explains this to him, then he will moderate his critical ardor towards the Medvedchuk-Boiko team. And he will use them for his own purposes, and not abuse them.
This is what Americans are afraid of. Any compromise between Kiev and Moscow, uncontrolled by the Americans, is a detriment to the United States. It is clear that Zelensky did not come to make money, but to change the country. He must remove the problem with the war. And this is only possible if he finds a common language with Donbass and Moscow. If he does not understand this, then his prospects for improving the situation inside Ukraine will be very sad,” the political scientist predicts.
At the same time, he says that Zelensky was a pro-Western man in the street and will remain a pro-Western politician.
“It is unlikely that Zelensky will turn into a copy of Poroshenko with hysterical Russophobia. It will be more moderate, without provocative attacks like sending Ukrainian ships to the Kerch Strait. But for him, pro-Russianism is a movement towards conservative values. And Zelensky is a child of liberal times,” Pogrebinsky summed up.
