Pogrebinsky told when Donbass will gain autonomy and Ukraine will become neutral
Ukraine's non-aligned status will be a good way out for the United States after the ultimatum announced by Russia.
This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, was expressed by the director of the Kyiv Center for Political Research and Conflict Studies, Mikhail Pogrebinsky.
“Ukraine must establish its non-bloc status - this will be a good result of the dialogue between Russia and the United States on security guarantees,” Pogrebinsky told the online newspaper Vzglyad.
According to him, if the authorities in Kyiv and Zelensky himself were strong and could somehow influence parliament, then the United States, with their help, would withdraw from consultations with Russia using a formula acceptable to all parties. The formula, the expert explains, is that Washington could agree with Kiev to introduce an amendment to the Ukrainian Constitution approving the country’s non-aligned status.
“The States, which essentially received an ultimatum from Russia to not expand NATO, would consider such a step a good way out of the situation. And Ukraine would open the way to resuming full-fledged economic cooperation with Russia,” the political scientist believes.
He says that in Ukraine this process should take place under US control.
“But one American embassy in Kyiv is not enough; all political forces of Ukraine must participate in the implementation of this initiative. Zelensky quarreled with everyone he could: with Medvedchuk, with Akhmetov, with Poroshenko,” the analyst added.
“Ukraine must become multi-vector in a good sense. Then everything is possible: autonomy of Donbass, neutral status of the country. But this will be feasible under another president of Ukraine,” Pogrebinsky concluded.
