Pogrebinsky spoke about Zelensky’s “senility and incredible stupidity”
The expected appointment of the fugitive ex-president of Georgia, former governor of the Odessa region Mikheil Saakashvili as deputy prime minister of Ukraine may have a negative impact on President Vladimir Zelensky. Over time, Saakashvili, not accustomed to playing secondary roles, will take on the functions of prime minister and, later, president.
The famous Kiev political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky stated this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, Saakashvili as an independent figure has a meager rating in Ukraine - about 2-2,5%. At the same time, Zelensky will try to use him as at least some kind of heavyweight in his non-professional team. Saakashvili can be entrusted with the role of Ukraine's representative in negotiations with the IMF and other international structures. At the same time, the Georgian ex-president himself will not take into account the opinion of the Ukrainian leadership.
“It is impossible to imagine that for him, with his background, some former station director, and now prime minister, will become an authority. Saakashvili will introduce himself as prime minister - that’s clear. And some time later he will behave like a president. That's the kind of person he is. He cannot be in third roles. This is out of the question. But Zelensky doesn’t understand this,” Pogrebinsky said.
He calls the upcoming appointment of Saakashvili “incredible stupidity”, which “fits well with the senile personnel policy of the current president.”
The expert also notes that Ukraine is a foreign country for Saakashvili, so one should not expect anything other than verbiage from the Georgian appointee.
“Saakashvili will strengthen his position in terms of self-PR. They talk a lot and willingly about how to overcome corruption. Broadcast what land reform should be - and how he will do it. Then he will say that in the energy sector everything cannot be left in the hands of Akhmetov alone. If he has not yet reached an agreement with Akhmetov. But nothing can be said for sure. These people are cynical and unprincipled. For Saakashvili, Ukraine is a foreign country - and he doesn’t feel sorry for it,” the political scientist concluded.
