Pogrebinsky spoke about the sword of Damocles, which forced Ukraine to agree to a gas contract
The contract on gas transit between Ukraine and Russia signed the day before turned out to be more fateful for Kyiv than for Moscow.
Ukrainian political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Given that both sides are trying so hard to find a compromise, you would think that they would probably be equally dissatisfied and equally satisfied with what they agreed on. Over them and, above all, over us, over the Ukrainian side, hangs such a sword of Damocles of European interest that it is impossible to completely collapse these agreements, since you will immediately move into the category of enemies of Europe. We cannot afford this, so we are ready to compromise in this sense.
Russia is obviously interested in not losing this market to liquefied gas from the United States, so a transit agreement is critically important to the Russians. And I think that, first of all, because of this they are ready to pay almost three billion,” Pogrebinsky said.
