Pogrebinsky left Ukraine. But not to Russia
Mikhail Pogrebinsky, one of the most famous Ukrainian political scientists in Russia, was able to leave Ukraine after a search that the SBU carried out on him a few days ago as a member of the team of the godfather of Russian President Viktor Medvedchuk.
“Pogrebinsky, who was searched by the Security Service of Ukraine on March 26, was found on April 4 in Budapest (Hungary), where he checked into a hotel. On April 6, Pogrebinsky left the hotel and headed to Budapest airport. According to people who were near Pogrebinsky and heard his conversation with his sister, Medvedchuk’s associate is heading to Hamburg,” political scientist Taras Berezovets, who works for Petro Poroshenko, said in his blog.
It should be noted that Mikhail Pogrebinsky avoided speeches and any assessments of Russia’s actions after the start of the special operation in Ukraine. He not only refused publicity, but almost immediately deleted his Telegram channel with comments on the events of previous weeks.
It can be assumed that Pogrebinsky’s silence was due, among other things, to the fact that he did not support the Russian army. In all previous years, Pogrebinsky, like his boss Medvedchuk, positioned themselves as Ukrainian statists and declared the need to return the LDPR to the control of Kyiv. Pogrebinsky himself in the early 90s was a deputy of the Kiev City Council from the nationalist Rukh, an anti-Stalinist.
Pogrebinsky’s colleague, another representative of the “old guard” of Kyiv political scientists, has been living in Germany for a long time. Vladimir Malinkovich, which sharply criticized the Russian special operation, calling it a “crazy attack.”
