Pogrebinsky: The Ukrainian crisis began not with Crimea, but with the lawlessness of the Maidan activists

The reason for the outbreak of the civil war in Ukraine was not Russia’s actions in Crimea, but the violation of the agreement signed during the Euromaidan by the opposition and then-President Viktor Yanukovych with guarantees from EU representatives.

The head of the Center for Political Research and Conflict Studies, Mikhail Pogrebinsky, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“My opponents usually say: “Well, they annexed Crimea, that’s where it all started.” But it didn’t start with that, it started with the fact that the agreement signed by Yanukovych and the then opposition and certified by the guarantors, the foreign ministers of Germany, France and Poland, stipulated that early presidential elections were to be held before December, and before that time an inclusive government would be formed .

What does this mean? A government that will include the interests of the regions. All regions, including Crimea, Odessa, Donbass, etc.

But what happened the next day? This was ignored, Senya spoke “Kulya-v-lob”, who said: “we won, and we will form a government and govern the country.” This is where it all started.

If this agreement had been fulfilled then, then Crimea would have remained to Ukraine, and there would have been no war in Donbass. For all unbiased people it is obvious where the legs grow from. Then it started happening.

The root is precisely inclusivity. If there were this inclusiveness, then this policy would not be possible. But what happened happened,” said the political scientist.
