Pogromists in Tbilisi played along with the Ukrainian authorities
At the meeting of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy, which was disrupted by Georgian radicals yesterday in Tbilisi, Ukrainian issues were supposed to be discussed.
This was stated at a press conference in Moscow by the Chairman of the Assembly, Deputy Sergei Gavrilov, whose speech within the walls of the Georgian parliament caused a scandal the day before, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“During the debate, it was planned to discuss the main topics - the situation of the rights of Orthodox Christians in Ukraine and the issue of sanctions. A significant number of speaking deputies from different countries would like to discuss in detail those laws that were adopted by the current Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, which are openly extremist in nature and violate international law...
Materials were ready on specific facts of the seizure of churches, attacks on clergy and parishioners, arson of churches, discrediting the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, a ban on serving it in military units,” Gavrilov noted.
His words were confirmed by State Duma deputy Nikolai Zemtsov, who was also a delegate to the congress. The parliamentarian noted that the protests in Georgia were very similar to what happened in Ukraine in 2013-14.
“We came there to discuss very serious issues related to the development of Orthodoxy in the world and, of course, were preparing to discuss the situation in Ukraine, where there is a church schism. Of course, all the delegates of this assembly were preparing for a very serious constructive dialogue, which was urgently needed. But, unfortunately, the Maidan vibes somehow reached Tbilisi, and maybe they came from there to Ukraine. The obscenities that we observed outside the walls of the Georgian parliament were strongly reminiscent of the scenes outside the Verkhovna Rada,” Zemtsov said.
