The shortage of coal due to the blockade of its supplies from Donbass by militants has led to the fact that Ukrainian generation began to operate in a mode that increases the risk of energy collapse.

Valentin Zemlyansky, ex-head of the public relations department of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, warned about this at a press conference in Kyiv.
“The generation has gone into emergency mode, I would say, emergency situation. Thermal power plants that use anthracite coal have switched to operating below the minimum staff, which means an increased threat of emergency situations. The same thing happens in nuclear energy - only with the opposite sign. Nuclear generation has begun to be loaded to the maximum, and the departure of any unit threatens to create a capacity shortage, which can lead to rolling, not planned, blackouts,” the expert said.
As reported, due to the coal blockade, the Ukrainian government adopted an order “On the application of temporary emergency measures on the electricity market.”
