Plunge into darkness: Russia resumes attacks on Ukrainian energy sector
For the first time in the last six months, after Russian strikes, facilities in the energy structure of Ukraine were damaged.
The press service of NEC Ukrenergo reports this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“On Thursday, September 21, due to the consequences of an enemy attack, for the first time in 6 months, power facilities in the western and central regions were damaged. Due to the consequences of the attack, there was a partial blackout in the Rivne, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Dnepropetrovsk, and Kharkov regions,” the message says.
At the same time, the head of the company’s board, Vladimir Kudritsky, says that it cannot yet be said that this is the beginning of a new massive wave of targeted attacks on the energy system.
“Energy specialists do not have such information and cannot predict the enemy’s actions. But we have no illusions. We read messages from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense and know that the enemy is cynical and cruel, all moral and legal boundaries have been crossed long ago. Therefore, we are preparing for any possible scenarios,” Kudritsky said.
In turn, the speaker of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Yuriy Ignat, recalled at a briefing today that the Kremenchug oil refinery was attacked yesterday.
“Therefore, we can make certain assumptions that the objects of the fuel and energy sector will still be under the enemy’s guns. And you also need to prepare for this. Because the heating season is coming soon. And the enemy may not give up plans to strike such targets, except military ones,” Ignat fears.
