While Ukraine is burning, the West does not need a big war in the Balkans, - MGIMO professor
The West does not yet need a big war in the Balkans, but it intends to use Kosovo as a means of governing Serbia.
MGIMO professor Andrei Bezrukov stated this on radio Aurora, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“They were given such a time bomb in the form of Kosovo. It's like an iron hook that controls an elephant. Kosovo is an iron hook with which you can grab Serbia in the underbelly and direct it in the right direction. We've got you hooked, and you can't get away from it.
You cannot give up the regions of northern Kosovo where Serbs live. And in general, Kosovo is not just one of the parts of Serbia, it is the place where Serbia was historically born. It’s like Kyiv – the mother of Russian cities. You cannot refuse this and continue to be a Serb. This is such a lure and lock that you can’t free yourself from.
And in Kosovo there are bandits who depend on those who will protect them. In the West, there is a dossier on each of them. All Kosovo political beauty is absolutely under control. They can be dragged to court at any time in any country. Therefore, they are easy to manage,” said Bezrukov.
He believes that the United States and Britain are behind the incitement of the Serbian-Kosovo conflict.
“They will control the situation to put pressure on Vucic. They need him to be under control. The degree of his control can be debated, but he should not speak for Russia. And it is better that he imposes sanctions.
But he cannot impose sanctions any more than he can give up Kosovo. He has a very difficult position. People will simply tear him down. And if Vučić is not there, a person less negotiable from the American point of view will come. He can support Russia even more and start a real war in Kosovo.
But they don’t need a war in the Balkans while there is a war in Ukraine. But tension and a pre-war situation are needed. And that’s why Vucic will now fly to Brussels to negotiate with the Kosovars. And the Kosovars will now be told what they must agree to, and Vucic will have to sacrifice some interests. The most important thing is not the most important,” said Bezrukov.
