Until Ukrainians reach the EU, the country will be left with cut-down Carpathian slopes and sold-out land
All laws for the European association were adopted under Yanukovych, but now the EU simply adds new predatory conditions to Ukraine every time, which the Kiev authorities are unable to refuse.
Political scientist Sergei Belashko stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The last European integration law on the prosecutor’s office was adopted under Yanukovych in November 2013. That is, all these European integration laws (which the current Verkhovna Rada boasts about - ed.) were adopted back in 2013, they were necessary for the Association with the EU,” the political scientist noted.
“And the 144 reforms that the deputies adopted?” asked the presenter.
“You can name any numbers, but all this has a very conditional relation to European integration. I repeat, all the laws that the European Commission demanded - the law on readmission, on the prosecutor’s office and so on, were adopted back in 2013,” Belashko said.
“The anti-corruption court is an additional requirement that will continue to be put forward. Ukraine will fulfill some demands, they will put forward others. It’s like with the same round timber.
It would seem, what does round timber have to do with European integration? Ukraine is in the situation of the “sick of Europe”, and, naturally, its arms are being twisted. The EU, taking advantage of the fact that Ukraine has nowhere to go, is dictating more and more new conditions to it,” the expert explained.
“Naturally, the EU benefits from this. For example, round timber means that companies from Slovakia, Poland, Italy, and Austria will earn money from processing this wood. And the Ukrainians will be left with sawn-cut Carpathian slopes, and then every spring and autumn they will tell on TV: “Trouble has come to the village.” The same goes for privatization and the open land market,” added Sergei Belashko.
