Testimony of an American diplomat: Volcker tried to achieve impunity for Poroshenko
Former US Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker hinted to representatives of President Zelensky's Office to abandon the idea of criminal prosecution of former President Petro Poroshenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This became known from the publication of closed testimony by US Charge d'Affaires in Ukraine William Taylor before Congress, Voice of America reports.
Taylor recounted a meeting he and Volker had on September 14 with President Zelensky's adviser Andrei Yermak and outside adviser Igor Novikov.
“Ambassador Volker hinted to Yermak and this second Ukrainian - his last name is Novikov - that it would be nice not to persecute ex-President Poroshenko. After all, there was information and even actions indicating that Zelensky’s team was going to persecute Poroshenko on a number of issues, for example, due to the incident in the Kerch Strait. President Poroshenko was blamed for the military decisions he made at the time,” Taylor said.
According to him, after that Ermak and Novikov took out their mobile phones and showed photographs of their relatives, brother and cousin, who were killed or wounded in Donbass.
“They showed this to Kurt and me, saying: Poroshenko is to blame for this. They have deep anger at Poroshenko on an emotional level. This is one of the things motivating the attacks and lawsuits against Poroshenko, but not the only one. There were others too. Oligarch Kolomoisky, whom I mentioned earlier, also has a grudge against Poroshenko,” the ambassador said.
