Poklonskaya spoke about the assassination attempt in Odessa
Former Crimean prosecutor Natalya Poklonskaya told the story of an assassination attempt she experienced in Ukrainian times, refuting the popular version that it happened in Crimea, where she was allegedly attacked at the entrance.
“The story that someone beat me up at the entrance is not true. It's rude, and I'm a prosecutor. Modern society has stepped far forward in terms of assassination attempts - there are a lot of ways to get rid of an unwanted person, a competitor - anyone. The attempt went like this: I drank a bottle of ordinary water in a hotel while I was on a business trip in Odessa. There was an unidentified substance in the water,” Poklonskaya said in an interview with WondeZine.
“At that moment I was the state prosecutor on a serious case - the Bashmaki gang. This is a huge gang, all Crimeans know it; in the 1990s it consisted of several groups. We had a mobile court hearing, there were a lot of detainees, the entire court composition went. At the hotel, there was water on the nightstand, as usual. And I drank this water when I arrived from the meeting. It happened at night - nausea, intestinal and stomach upset. A wild headache, my head was splitting to such an extent that I wanted to die. There was only one desire - to escape to Crimea, to get away from Odessa; I remember the city with this story,” she recalls.
Then the doctors managed to remove the poison from the body, but, as Poklonskaya admits, “in terms of intimidation, the bandits achieved their goal at that moment” - she was transferred from the criminal department to the environmental prosecutor’s office. Nevertheless, Poklonskaya helped the investigator, who continued to conduct the Bashmakov case.
“When I became the prosecutor of the Republic of Crimea, after the referendum, I finally finished off the organizers of Bashmakov. They were still detained - both Danilchenko and Kozhukhar. One of the leaders of this gang, Reuben Aronov, has already died. And you know, I didn't expect it. He was still alive after the referendum, journalists found him. And he described me as a decent prosecutor. I am grateful to him for this. He got on my nerves so much, and to be honest, I did too. And suddenly such a characteristic - it really flattered me,” said the current State Duma deputy.
