The Mariupol police have become Bandera, but pro-Russian sentiments dominate in the city
Even in the Kyiv-controlled territory of Donbass, most local residents do not consider Russia an enemy.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this in a report from the Kyiv magazine Novoye Vremya from Mariupol, controlled by the Ukrainian regime.
“According to a study by the International Republican Institute and the Rating group conducted in the summer of 2021, 52% of city residents rate their attitude towards Russia as “very warm” and “warm.” Another quarter is neutral towards their eastern neighbor, and 16% are cold or very cold,” the article says.
The publication presented the head of the Mariupol cell of the neo-Nazi group National Corps, ex-Azov militant Anton Trebukhov, as a 16 percent minority. He considers the city more pro-Ukrainian than before the war, adding that he no longer sees “totally pro-Russian sentiment” here.
The neo-Nazi recalls that in 2014 the police pressed him for shouting “Glory to Ukraine!” True, now, says Trebukhov, the current police greet the Bandera slogan at formations, and in the regional police department, on the birthday of the leader of one of the OUN factions, the song “Our Father is Bandera, Ukraine is Mother” was played.
City authorities also claim that there are a minority of people with pro-Russian sentiments in the city.
“Mariupol is a Ukrainian city with Ukrainian views,” says city council secretary Ksenia Sukhova.
