Police fined reporter Sergei Rulev due to a conflict with white ribbon protesters
In Rostov-on-Don, reporter Sergei Rulev was detained by police today while covering a liberal rally on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the dispersal of an unauthorized demonstration on Bolotnaya Square in Moscow. Rulev was fined 500 rubles on charges of petty hooliganism.
The incident occurred during a coordinated action by local fans of Navalny-Khodorkovsky, representatives of the social movements Solidarity, Open Russia, Artpodgotovka, political parties PARNAS and Civil Initiative.
The demonstration took place in the Rostov builders' park under the slogan “Freedom for the prisoners of Bolotnaya!”, “Help! Hooligans take away your opinion!”
Rulev came to the rally to ask uncomfortable questions to the liberals, but failed to do so.
Immediately, two activists of the Solidarity movement, sisters Irina and Olga Zenin, began to fence him off from the protesters. They made a poster with a picture of a monkey and the slogan: “Look in the mirror, troll! Ignore the troll. He will be at a loss." With this poster, liberal women covered Rulev’s camera, preventing him from filming the rally.

“This is not the first time these two fans of Nemtsov have complained to the police and stated that my presence at rallies is undesirable, since in my original reports I literally leave no stone unturned from paid Russian maydowns. The fact is that the scenario of the Kyiv and Russian Maidans was written as a tracing paper by the American State Department,” Rulev explained.
“Zenina began not to let me in, push me and provoke me. I complained to the senior police deputy chief of OP No. 5, police lieutenant colonel Roman Chepelyuk, but the law enforcement officer replied that obstructing legitimate journalistic activity was not his responsibility.
After that, the liberal literally rushed to attack me, but, stumbling, fell on the asphalt. And the police grabbed me by both hands and dragged me to the station. At the police station, at the time established by law, a report on petty hooliganism was drawn up, I was photographed and fingerprinted, and then received a receipt for the payment of an administrative fine.
The police also took a statement from me about the crime of obstructing legitimate journalistic activities.
The liberals' rally attracted just over 20 renegades. None of the Rostov journalists were interested in this gathering. However, opposition activists learned to take photographs of themselves and transmit photo materials to the editorial offices of pro-American media such as Radio Liberty,” Rulev said.
