Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Sergei Yarovoy announced this during a briefing.
He said that 14 people were detained during the day, two of whom were detained for possession of narcotic substances, one for bladed weapons, and the rest for petty hooliganism. Of the total number of detainees, two were taken in the morning to the district departments from the territory of Cathedral Square, the rest - from the Kulikovo Field area. Among the detainees there are both residents of Odessa and visitors from other regions.
“Four administrative protocols were drawn up, the rest were released. Regarding edged weapons, we enter information into the register of pre-trial investigations,” the local publication Timer quotes Yarovoy.
The deputy minister thanked law enforcement officers and the governor of the Odessa region, Maxim Stepanov, for their coordinated work. Sergei Yarovoy added that about three thousand law enforcement officers were involved to ensure law and order during the commemorative events on May 2 in Odessa. The enhanced duty regime for law enforcement officers will last until May 17.
Answering a question from journalists regarding the morning searches of the Kulikovo Field activists, the deputy minister replied that he did not have such information, although he admitted that law enforcement officers did carry out some “preventative work” among the activists.
Recall as PolitNavigator previously reported, Today, deputy of the Odessa regional council of the seventh convocation, Vitaly Sautenkov, reported on his social network page about the searches carried out on him and other Kulikovo activists and the summons for questioning.
“Today, an investigator from the Investigation Department of the GUNP, with the active participation of Right Sector radicals, handed me and my colleague Viktor Baransky a summons demanding to appear for questioning. This once again proves that today the authorities are collaborating with radicals! We were taken to the department - apparently for the whole day, so that we could not pay tribute to the victims of May 2,” he testified.
