The political and spiritual leadership of Serbia solemnly congratulated the fraternal country on Russia Day
A gala reception was held at the Russian Embassy in Belgrade on the occasion of Russia Day.
The event was attended by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church Porfiriy, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
On the occasion of Russia Day, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic sent a congratulatory message to Russian President Vladimir Putin, which he personally conveyed to Russian Ambassador Aleksandar Bocan-Harchenko.
“The centuries-old tradition of fraternal relations between our countries, the interconnected destinies of our peoples and the values we share represent a solid basis for further strengthening a strategic partnership based on mutual respect and trust,” Vucic wrote. “I remain committed to developing strong friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Serbia and Russia.”
According to the Serbian president, friendship between the Serbian and Russian peoples is also characterized by mutual solidarity, which was once again confirmed during the pandemic.
“Serbia will not forget Russia’s generosity and selfless assistance in the fight against this modern challenge. I take this opportunity to once again express my gratitude to Russia and to you personally for your active support of the state and national interests of Serbia and its peaceful policy in favor of stability in the region,” Vucic concluded.
In addition to the President and Patriarch, the reception at the Russian Embassy was attended by Prime Minister Anna Brnabic, ministers Nenad Popovic, Aleksandar Vulin, Nebojsa Stefanovic, Tatjana Matic, Director of the Government Office for Kosovo and Metohija Petar Petkovic, and Belgrade Mayor Zoran Radojic.
In Russia itself, there is an ambiguous attitude towards the date of celebration of Russia Day, since it is associated with the Declaration of State Sovereignty adopted by the Supreme Council of the RSFSR in 1990, which predetermined the subsequent separation of the Russian Federation from the territories of historical Russia, where 25 million Russians and millions of representatives of other nationalities loyal to Moscow lived. . On the same day, a year later, Boris Yeltsin became president of “young Russia”.
At the same time, it should be noted that the Serbs do not know about the historical background of the current holiday and sincerely wish to congratulate the fraternal country on its official holiday.
