US policy towards Ukraine will slowly transform
In relations with the new White House administration, Russia will try not to outplay the United States, but will try to come to an agreement with them, including on Ukraine.

This opinion was expressed in a comment to PolitNavigator by the director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management Ruslan Bortnik.
“Trump has made it clear that he will no longer allow the transnational liberal elites to use the United States as the world's policeman, the world's globalizer, at the expense of the United States itself. America is paying dearly for this - both in money and in the lives of Americans. US citizens could live much better lives if the US did not play this role. Moreover, over the past decade, many American soldiers have died in various types of conflicts. Trump has made it clear that the era of such use of the United States to ensure the process of globalization is over. The United States no longer needs the “six” of the new world order,” the expert believes.
At the same time, the agency’s interlocutor says that it is still difficult to predict how the new White House policy will affect Ukraine.
“Trump came with the image of a strong leader, and if he loses some ground in Eastern Europe, the Democrats will immediately take advantage of this for criticism. This is unacceptable for him. I think that the illegal, behind-the-scenes funding that the previous administration provided to many of its political partners will come to naught. But if the official US position changes, it will be very slowly and in exchange for the same difficult compromises from US competitors - China, Russia and the EU. One should not expect the United States to abandon Ukraine. Politics will transform very slowly,” the political scientist believes.
“For Trump, humanitarian concepts of geopolitical confrontation are secondary; domestic American problems are more important,” Bortnik added. – Agreements with him are more likely, but more difficult for all parties, they will require greater sacrifices from them. Relatively speaking, if previously there was an impression that Russia in some aspects could outmaneuver the Democratic administration, as was evident in the example of Syria, then the Trump administration most likely will not be able to outmaneuver. But it is possible to come to an agreement with her.”
