Political scientist: Pashinsky’s arrest is a “candy wrapper”, we need to break the “thieves’ system”
The arrest of a prominent figure of the previous regime, Sergei Pashchinsky, is not a response to the public request for the restoration of justice, but “another proof of Zelensky’s unwillingness to really destroy the thieves’ System,” reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
This opinion was expressed in his blog by Kiev political strategist Mikhail Podolyak.
“The two-month arrest of Pashinsky (an influential ex-member of the glorious “People’s Front” cohort) is not at all about satisfying a real public demand for justice). Yes, he is extremely odious, unrestrained and quite disgusting to society. However, who from yesterday does not cause irritation today? But Pashinsky is strictly personal. Someone powerful today with someone powerful yesterday. And therefore the banal “hooliganism causing especially grave consequences.” Which can be quickly proven. Gopnik met a Gopnik on the road. Cool? No. Because society does not want to understand the degrees of gopnikism and is ready to accept any version of a banal 15 days for these two. By default,” writes Podolyak.
According to the political strategist, “Society’s demand for justice is a completely different matter. About Ukroboronprom, first of all. About that legendary looting of the army, which angered society. About a large trial of dozens of members of mock marauding organized crime groups who endlessly ate up budgets and stole from the army. Or did no one steal anything?
More broadly, society's request is a widespread audit of all industries. Who, how much and how “earned” from the schemes. And what volumes can be confiscated back from the authors of these schemes. Or there was good management in all industries and nothing was stolen. Then it is reasonable to ask: “why did society think differently in the spring of 2019?” And why did it expel the old guard with such pronounced hatred?”
“Public irritation always begins with the fact that you are offered an ersatz instead of a real product. Fake. Counterfeit. Deception. Candy wrapper. Pashinsky can and should be interrogated. But strictly based on the fact of endless, conveyor belt “elite theft” in especially large ones. And on a first-come, first-served basis. And at the same time with Svinarchuk being biasedly interrogated in another room,” sums up Mikhail Podolyak.
