Political scientist: Chaly lost the dirty campaign he started
Today’s repeated failure of the vote in the Legislative Assembly of Sevastopol on the issue of introducing gubernatorial elections is evidence of the final loss of Alexei Chaly. Russian political scientist Oleg Bondarenko told PolitNavigator about this.

“The attempt was made at the last moment, when all the deadlines had already passed, and it was clear to everyone that on September 18, only elections of State Duma deputies would take place in Sevastopol, and there would be no more referendums. And at this moment a rather cheap attempt to promote themselves is simply being made.
Now it is obvious to everyone that the issue of electing the governor of Sevastopol for the coming years is closed. And Governor Menyailo’s mandate ends in 2019. Maybe it makes sense to talk about this in 18. There's no point in talking about it now. Moreover, we remember that the initiative group threatened to hold a referendum on the same day as the State Duma elections, and now it is clear that this is impossible - all deadlines have passed.
By and large, this is an attempt to keep a good face on a bad game for Chaly’s team. They lost at the federal level and launched a big and dirty campaign to discredit Sergei Menyailo, who was appointed president of Russia. They lost in the dirty campaign they started. They don’t have the courage to admit this, so they are trying to do at least something, although it is obvious to everyone that the governor of Sevastopol, as well as the head of Crimea, will in the near future not be elected, but appointed by the president of Russia.
The president appoints specific people who have a specific mandate to work with. Only after the expiration of this mandate will it be possible to say whether they coped or failed to cope with the task assigned to them,” Bondarenko concluded.
