Political scientist: LDPR needs to be included in the Normandy format, otherwise Kyiv will not start a direct dialogue
The initiative of the head of the Donetsk People's Republic Alexander Zakharchenko to include representatives of the LDPR in the Normandy format is one of the ways to force Kyiv to begin a direct dialogue with Donbass, as provided for in the Minsk agreements.
This opinion was expressed to PolitNavigator by political scientist Denis Denisov, an expert at the Institute of CIS Countries.

“Zakharchenko’s demands are logical, based on the situation in which the Minsk agreements found themselves. The Kiev side categorically refuses direct dialogue with representatives of the republics, which, in turn, significantly complicates the resolution of a number of issues. Starting from humanitarian to economic issues of cooperation, security and political relations.
The dialogue that exists within the framework of the negotiating groups in Minsk does not solve the real problem that exists between the republics and Ukraine. It has already been said more than once that if there were direct negotiations, including with the participation of the leaders of the DPR and LPR, then a number of issues would be resolved much faster and more efficiently,” Denisov said.
In his opinion, Kyiv is still not in the mood to find a compromise with Donbass and is avoiding dialogue. Proof of this, Denisov believes, is the propaganda disseminated by the Ukrainian side even after the meeting in Berlin, where EU leaders stated the need for Kiev to implement the political points of the Minsk agreements.
“All this suggests that it is very doubtful that Ukraine is capable of making compromises,” Denisov concluded.
