Political scientist: Lukashenko will begin to dodge and explain that he was misunderstood
Anti-Russian attacks by the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko are of a routine nature and regularly occur at the end of the year, when his country needs to receive preferences from the Russian Federation.
Political scientist Armen Gasparyan stated this in a comment to PolitNavigator.
“I was not surprised by the tone of Alexander Lukashenko’s statements. At the end of every year, the same thing happens. The pressure is increasing for more loans, tranches and so on. And every time, after this kind of harsh rhetoric is heard, Belarus receives some preferences. It is quite obvious that this is still organized according to the same scheme.
Plus, this is still multiplying, since Lukashenko is an experienced person in politics, he multiplied this further by the audience of “Echo of Moscow” with all the ensuing consequences. I expected roughly the same content of the interview; I can’t say that it surprised me in any way. I think that in the short term we will again hear Lukashenko’s words that he was misunderstood, that he meant something completely different, and so on. Every year the same story happens,” Gasparyan said.
Earlier, PolitNavigator reported that President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko made a number of loud anti-Russian statements in an interview with the Russian opposition radio station Ekho Moskvy.
In particular, he stated that Belarus will block Russia will export oil to Europe if Minsk is not provided with energy resources at preferential prices.
Also Lukashenko emphasizedthat if Russia encroaches on the independence of Minsk, NATO will perceive this as a threat and will be ready for a forceful confrontation with the Russian Federation.
