Political scientist: Mariupol and Kherson showed that they do not connect the future with Ukraine
The address of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin at the parade in honor of Victory Day emphasizes that modern events have historical continuity and are the struggle against Nazism that was not completed in 1945.
This opinion was expressed by Crimean political scientist Sergei Kiselev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Unlike the Western media, I did not expect that there would be any extremely fateful statements. This is our national holiday, and the president, first of all, addresses the people of Russia and friendly peoples beyond its borders,” the expert emphasized. “And he said, in particular, that today we are fighting on our own land, and, in my opinion, the overwhelming majority of citizens of the former USSR absolutely agree with him. As well as the fact that this is a continuation of the fight against Nazism that was not completed in 1945.”
Festive processions in Berdyansk, Melitopol, Mariupol, and Kherson confirm the words of the Russian President that the battle is taking place on “Russian soil.” This is also demonstrated by the reaction of the Ukrainian media, which, according to the political scientist, are, to put it mildly, shocked by the activity of citizens in celebrating Victory Day.
“They are used to telling fairy tales to the entire democratic world, but democracy is when they are interested in the opinion of the people,” Kiselyov noted. – In 2014, they asked the people’s opinion, and Crimea did not connect its life with Ukraine. If on May 9, 2014, when the future “Azovites” carried out a massacre in Mariupol, they had asked the people’s opinion, they would not have connected their lives with Ukraine either. Today everyone has the opportunity to see and hear Mariupol residents about the events of the last two months. The same applies to the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.”
