The political scientist recalled the role of Senator Tsekov in the defeat of Crimean statehood by Ukraine

Vyacheslav Lebedev, a political scientist and former press secretary of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yuri Meshkov, stated this in an interview with the Crimean Telegraph weekly.
In his opinion, Meshkov’s most unfortunate decision after coming to power was the appointment of Sergei Tsekov as head of parliament:
“Even though Tsekov was for the Russian idea, he was a purely careerist. He began to play his own game instead of supporting Meshkov. And this had an extremely negative impact on the situation. Showdowns, intrigues, discord in the team began, all sorts of criminals came out,” Lebedev noted.
As a result, uncontrollable processes began in Simferopol:
“In the end, Meshkov dissolved the Supreme Council, but he had no real power, he could not hold power alone. There were proposals from his opposition, from Tsekov, to come to an agreement, but alas, this did not lead to anything except the resignation of the Crimean president and the fact that Ukraine had a great chance to sharply limit any Crimean independence in general,” concluded Vyacheslav Lebedev.
