Political scientist on Zelensky and Erdogan’s claims to Crimea: Two dogs bark – the caravan moves on
The flirting of Turkish President Recep Erdogan with the head of the Ukrainian state, Vladimir Zelensky, who has taken an anti-Russian position, may have far-reaching consequences, primarily for Ankara itself. Russia has something to answer Turkey in different directions.
Crimean political scientist Andrei Nikiforov told PolitNavigator about this, commenting statements made the day before by the Turkish President that he does not recognize the Russian status of Crimea and supports Ukraine.
“In fact, there is a good Eastern proverb: “The dog barks, the caravan moves on.” Well, two dogs bark, but the caravan still moves on.
In this case, I think everything has been clear to everyone with Zelensky (maybe except himself) for a long time. As for Erdogan, he wants to dig his own grave, let him dig it. He's been doing this diligently lately. I think his geopolitical loneliness is already very close, he has reached it.
I suspect that many of the promising projects that Russia has for some reason been pursuing with Turkey in recent years - in general, if we put aside personal twists, then the partnership of these two countries in the Black Sea region, in the Balkans, in the Near and Middle East is very profitable and promising. But it turns out that we had to be more careful with this too.
Now, I suspect that Russia can manage without Turkey for quite a long time, and it was not the Russian president who was saved from the putschists with the help of Turkish and intelligence services, and diplomacy, and so on and so forth. What, this situation cannot happen again?
Or does Turkey believe that Russia will continue to maintain its neutral status in the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, despite all the antics that Erdogan allows himself?
Well, that is, there is a lot here that could come back to haunt Turkey in the future. I repeat once again, we are neither cold nor hot from the way they kiss in Istanbul. And for Turkey this could have far-reaching and large-scale consequences,” Nikiforov said.
Thank you!
