The political scientist promises an increase in protests in the Russian Federation immediately after the end of quarantine
The economic indicators of different regions of Russia differ by more than 10 times. Political scientist Dmitry Orlov stated this at a round table in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“An important trend is increased differentiation of social indicators. It is obvious that the differentiation of budgetary provision in transfers is increasing. Per capita expenditure on health care. For example, Moscow - 33 thousand rubles, Kurgan - 3,4 thousand rubles. Investments in fixed assets, Nenets Autonomous Okrug - 1 million 400 tons, Ingushetia - 4,300 rubles. This is the differentiation we see,” Orlov said.
The challenge, according to the expert, will be the end of the pandemic.
“The end of the pandemic will mean an increase in public expectations, an increase in protest sentiments, and people’s awareness of those problems in the economic situation and their socio-economic situation, which, in general, are obvious.
The problem is that this negative point will coincide with the launch of the election campaign to the State Duma. And of course, a protest movement will begin, especially in those regions where, returning to our topic, problematic governance and generally weak governance, protest sentiments can lead to the formation of permanent points of protest, it is difficult to say now which one. I don’t bet on political protest, environmental protest, or labor protest. And the development of the situation will depend on how well the regional elite and regional leadership, including the new ones, cope,” Orlov said.
