A political scientist explained why Poroshenko’s idea of an armed OSCE mission is doomed to failure
Petro Poroshenko’s idea of establishing an armed OSCE mission in Donbass, again voiced at the last meeting of the Normandy Four, is doomed to failure. Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on air at UkrLife.

“The topics that were discussed there, regarding the police mission, were discussed back in 2014. We are talking about 16 thousand square kilometers of territory that needs to be controlled. This is comparable to Montenegro. Armed with pistols or even machine guns, two thousand OSCE officers are simply unable to ensure proper control. Moreover, they will obviously become the most convenient targets for attack,” Bortnik said.
Let us recall that the LDPR is categorically against the appearance of an armed OSCE mission in Donbass. Russian President Vladimir Putin allowed OSCE representatives to be armed with service weapons in heavy weapons storage areas and at troop withdrawal points on the demarcation line.
