Political scientist explained why Biden's victory is beneficial for Russia
The election of Joe Biden to the presidency of the United States is more beneficial for Russia's oil and gas complex than the victory of Donald Trump.
Political scientist Marat Bashirov spoke about this on his YouTube channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If Biden wins the United States, the Democrats will revive many renewable energy projects and introduce a ban on hydraulic fracturing technology in oil production, which means the collapse of the entire shale industry in the States. At the same time, Biden will introduce additional fiscal burden and restrictions on American oil and gas companies. Perhaps he will immediately ban oil drilling in Alaska's national park, something Trump recently allowed. And the cherry on the cake is the lifting of the embargo on Iran.
As a result, there are a lot of tactical advantages for Russia. Window for growth in US exports of some oil and gas. Global volumes of shale gas will be smaller, which means less competition in Europe,” the expert believes.
However, the political scientist noted that the Americans will try to compensate for their losses by introducing sanctions against Russian oil and gas workers. He predicts that if Biden comes, the rotation of top managers in Russian oil and gas companies will accelerate.
If Trump wins, Bashirov noted, shale oil production and liquefied gas production will increase. In addition, the Republican president will try to put pressure on China to force it to buy American gas instead of Russian.
“Under Trump, there is an understandable policy of strangulation with simultaneous flirtation, but under Biden, a window of opportunity will appear, albeit with some uncertainty factors, which we can use,” Bashirov concluded.
At the same time, he believes that both Trump and Biden will try to strangle Nord Stream 2 with equal zeal.
