The political scientist explained why Volcker fell silent
US Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker has recently begun to avoid loud statements and attacks against Russia, which he made in the first weeks after his appointment.
Political scientist Denis Denisov drew attention to this fact when commenting to PolitNavigator on the upcoming meeting of the American envoy with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

“The fact that Volker stopped making loud statements following meetings with Russian Presidential Assistant Vladislav Surkov is a good signal. In the sense that there is a constructive, reasonable, clear dialogue between the Russian Federation and the United States, within the framework of which, indeed, approaches can be developed that will, at a minimum, stop the bloodshed in Donbass.
During such negotiations, a restrained position is much better than loud statements, slogans and some strange interviews that would only delay this decision. Apparently, there is a constructive dialogue and the development of a number of initiatives that will contribute to the resolution of the conflict,” Denisov said.
He also noted that Poroshenko had previously met with the US Vice President, but now the Americans have lowered the level of negotiations with Kiev.
“The reduction in the level of representative and negotiator on the part of the United States shows the priority in US foreign policy. After the change of the State Department and the new president, it became quite obvious that Ukraine was ceasing to occupy the leading position that it represented for Obama and his apparatus. In this regard, apparently, Volker is the maximum that Poroshenko can count on at the moment,” Denisov said.
