The political scientist explained why Poroshenko needs Filaret’s members
The flirting of the Ukrainian authorities with the Kyiv Patriarchate of Filaret, unrecognized in the Orthodox world, is an attempt to provide itself with an additional electorate in the form of believers of the UOC-KP and nationalists sympathetic to Filaret’s followers.

Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik said this on air on the First Cossack TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, the UOC-KP has turned into an administrative resource of the current regime.
“The authorities today view the church as an electoral resource - not as a place where people come to God, but as a resource that can be used in elections. As a place where you can campaign for certain candidates. Therefore, by and large, this whole idea of rebuilding a united Ukrainian church, which will be subordinated only to the political leadership of the country, is precisely the idea of using religion, the church, as an additional tool of administrative resource... This is a game for the right-wing electorate. This is an attempt to throw in another humanitarian topic, to update it in order to prove to everyone that “I am the greatest patriot of Ukraine,” Bortnyk said.
