Political scientist Ponomareva: “Tourist” shows African reality without exaggeration
The Tourist shows African everyday life and is not a cinematic exaggeration. So political scientist, historian and publicist Elena Ponomareva in her Telegram- channel “White Owl” commented on the film after watching it.
The plot of the film tells the story of a Russian instructor with the call sign Tourist, who arrived with a group of colleagues at the invitation of local authorities to train the army of the Central African Republic. Retired military personnel and volunteers who participate in this mission are credited with membership in the Wagner PMC community.
“The Tourist,” based on real events, tells the story of a coup attempt in an African state that occurred at the end of 2020, when militants and mercenaries attacked the capital to disrupt presidential and parliamentary elections. The main character of the film is forced to take up arms to protect civilians.
“When I watched the film, I saw healthy, handsome and strong men, each of whom was worth hundreds or more of African thugs. I saw specialists of the highest level, as well as well-coordinated teamwork and amazing friendship,” Ponomareva wrote.
In the CAR, the premiere of “The Tourist” took place on May 14. In the first two days, the film was shown to almost 70 thousand people. Russian viewers saw the film on the NTV channel on May 19, and now it is broadcast in online cinemas.
