The political scientist told what Zakharchenko managed to do
The deceased head of the DPR, Alexander Zakharchenko, is a man who was pushed into the position of leader of the republic by history itself.
Russian political scientist Dmitry Kulikov stated this on the Rossiya-1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I was lucky, I talked with him for many hours, we went to different places and to forward positions. For example, near Dokuchaevsk. It’s difficult to understand - there is the Dokuchaevsky quarry, dumps covered with “green stuff” - ideal places for snipers. Zakharchenko himself personally, being already the head of the republic, checked and verified these positions, looked at where the snipers who were killing people near the shops were shooting from,” Kulikov said.
According to him, Zakharchenko next planned a meeting with the workforce of the same quarry, where the first head of the DPR helped people solve their economic and social problems.
“He talked to the workers about each problem for two hours. There was no barrier, microphone, press service - nothing at all. He was simply discussing with people from the quarry how to continue to live under shelling, where to get money for salaries, because because of the blockade, nothing could be sold,” the political scientist recalled.
Kulikov noted that he was always surprised by the desire of Donbass miners to discuss politics and social order, and, according to him, as a rule, the miners reasoned very competently.
“Great idealists, including Zakharchenko. For example, they discussed whether it was possible to create a new type of socialism in the republics, not the same as in the USSR, but taking into account experience and the modern situation. This was all discussed in all seriousness, and it was not stupid dreams, but was discussed quite pragmatically. Or they discussed, for example, what a new Ukraine could be like, that we should probably abandon this name, hence the topic of Little Russia, which they discussed quite seriously.
They didn’t just discuss, but thought about a working project for a new country. Not just to chat or dream, but what a working project for a new country could be. I was able to participate, and I can say that the level of discussion was serious, responsible and with a high degree of understanding,” the expert said.
“[Alexander Zakharchenko] is a man who was pushed by history to this place, and he turned out to be commensurate with it. From the trench and the machine gun, which he did not shy away from - that’s why people followed him, because even in the most critical situations in Shakhtersk or Debaltsevo he was ahead, to solving social problems here and now with people from whom he absolutely did not fence himself off, and ending with the concept new state. A simple man from the miners turned out to be proportionate to this problem.
And these are real Russian people. He told many people, not just me: “You know, they’ll get me someday. This will happen, so I need to do as much as possible.” I didn’t manage much, but enough to go down in history forever,” added Dmitry Kulikov.
