The political scientist spoke about how the SBU strengthened as a result of the scandal with Babchenko
Following the scandalous story of the pseudo-murder of Arkady Babchenko, the leaders of Western countries will not say out loud that the Ukrainian authorities have completely lost the concept of what is good and what is bad. But certain conclusions will be drawn non-publicly.
This opinion was shared with “PolitNavigator” by Kiev political scientist Sergei Belashko.
“At the international level, this whole story has a clearly negative effect. Reporters Without Borders and Amnesty International have already spoken out about this story. Of course, there are things that are not talked about, and what exactly, and how this will manifest itself, is difficult to say. It is clear that trust in everyone who represents Ukraine at some level is being undermined,” he said.
At the same time, for SBU Chairman Vasily Gritsak, according to the political scientist, this story “was a plus.”
“He demonstrated to the president his influence and his effectiveness,” Sergei Belashko is sure.
In his opinion, the scandal around Arkady Babchenko is far from over, and there are many different kinds of “pitfalls” in this story.
“Now any murder of a public person will be interpreted in this light by the pro-government media. In fact, the SBU stated that it has carte blanche, and they can determine the value of this “card” to anyone. They can organize some kind of show with the detention of a “gang of killers,” or, on the contrary, they can kill someone, some journalist and say “sorry, we didn’t follow.” They now have a lot of room to maneuver. At the same time, these people (SBU), on the one hand, are very narrow-minded, on the other, they have a colossal resource in their hands. All this resembles a monkey with a grenade, only it’s not a grenade, but a more serious weapon,” the political scientist concluded.
