Political scientist: Ukrainian recruitment program in Crimea is doomed to failure

Ukrainian recruitment centers on the border with Crimea are ineffective. Russian political scientist Oleg Matveychev told PolitNavigator about this.

“Most likely, this is all completely ineffective, because the majority of people living in Crimea are very patriotic. If they go to Ukraine, it means that they are being held back by some old tails: the presence of property and relatives. Now they are figuring out how to drag them to Crimea from the horror and hell that is in Ukraine,” Matveychev said.

He believes that the overwhelming number of “clients” of recruitment centers do not even think about working for Ukraine.

“What will a person do if they try to recruit him? He will probably pretend to be a teapot and say that he is ready to do whatever is needed: give me the password and parabellum. But the first thing he will do when he returns to Crimea is come and tell our special services. Those who are more cunning will simply not do anything,” Matveychev said.

At the same time, he did not deny that some kind of subversive activity could be carried out on the peninsula.

“The special service should track these people. They know how to counteract this. We are unlikely to be able to advise professionals on anything they don’t know. They need to be trusted,” Matveychev said.
