Now in Ukraine, the interpretation of the past, in particular, the role of Ukrainians in the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War, serves to increase conflict in society.

This opinion was expressed at a press conference in Kyiv by political scientist Alexey Yakubin.
“Unfortunately, over the past two years, an attempt has been made to change the attitude towards the Great Patriotic War, to give this event a different interpretation, to show that Ukraine was a victim here. But Ukraine, as part of the USSR, was one of the victorious countries. Thanks to her victory, she was even able to get a seat at the UN.
Unfortunately, in Ukraine, right-wing forces, having adopted the Polish experience, decided to use it to increase conflict in society, shifting public attention from many problems of our time. Unfortunately, the idea of conflict is still dominant in our country – the past as a way to legitimize individual political forces now, in order to divide and rule,” he said.
