Small parties were not able to use the opportunities of the changed election system in the last elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation, however, some of them will be represented by single-mandate deputies.

President of the Russian Association of Political Sciences Oksana Gamat-Golutvina announced this today at a press conference at the CEC Information Center
“We assumed that we would see the Duma in a variety of parties. Today we can already say that the same four parties are being systematically passed. But a certain number of candidates will receive parliamentary mandates as representatives of non-parliamentary parties. Almost half of the parties participating in the elections will be represented,” Gaman-Golutvina said.
Let us remind you that according to preliminary data, representatives of the Rodina and Civic Platform parties will receive one mandate each in the future composition of the Duma.
“This picture seems very positive to me because it expands the possibilities of representing the interests of different communities and segments of society. This means increasing the transparency and legitimacy of the political system. The system has passed the legitimacy test,” Gaman-Golutvina said.
She also noted that the personal composition of candidates from United Russia will be updated by 60-70%. “Usually such changes are accompanied by serious shocks. However, this was avoided,” the political scientist said.
