Political scientist: “In Donbass, State Duma factions are undergoing an initiation rite”
The frequent trips of deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation to Donbass are actually a competition in patriotism.”
Political scientist Konstantin Kalachev said this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He explains the activity of United Russia in Donbass as a derivative of loyalty to the president, and with the expectation of expanding the electorate and strengthening the bureaucratic positions of individual representatives of the party leadership.
United Russia is Putin's party. If the president considers it necessary to preserve the Russian world and expand its borders, to protect the independence and integrity of the people’s republics, to protect the Russian language, to help solve humanitarian problems, then it is logical that United Russia should be the vanguard in Donbass,” the expert told Kommersant.
According to him, for the Communist Party of the Russian Federation the topic of Donbass is a continuation of the traditional ideological line, as well as an opportunity to raise the topic of recreating the USSR again and again.
For the rest of the State Duma factions, the analyst continues, visiting Donbass is “like a rite of passage.”
“The part of the Socialist Revolutionaries that is associated with the ideological line of Zakhar Prilepin stands apart. They passed this initiation a long time ago. Mironov does not want to lag behind, so he demonstrates jingoism of a radical nature. All factions compete in patriotism,” Kalachev concluded.
