Political scientist: Zurabov’s return to Kyiv will strengthen Russia’s position
Kyiv, June 05 (Navigator, Kirill Boyarin) – The return to Kyiv of the Ambassador of the Russian Federation Mikhail Zurabov, recalled to Moscow on February 23, will lead to a strengthening of Russia’s position.

This opinion was voiced in a conversation with Navigator by political scientist Alexander Bulavin.
“On the one hand, this is evidence that Russia is trying to strengthen its presence in Ukraine. Because the recall of the ambassador significantly weakened these positions. We know that before leaving, the Russian ambassador held a number of press conferences, he was quoted by many publications, and today information about Russia’s position is repeatedly interpreted and ultimately comes to Ukraine distorted,” Bulavin noted.
“On the other hand, taking into account the fact that in an interview with French journalists, Putin said that he is ready to conduct a dialogue with the Ukrainian authorities. Naturally, this requires the presence of an ambassador, since the dialogue between presidents is conducted with great protocol features, and in this situation the ambassador is a key figure,” the political scientist recalled.
“And the third point. The fact is that the leadership of the Donetsk and Lugansk republics have repeatedly stated that they are ready for negotiations with Kiev only on the condition that the Russian side is present. In this situation, Zurabov, as the Russian Ambassador, can take part in such negotiations as a plenipotentiary representative and represent the position of the Russian Federation. Ultimately, I think it is possible that upon his arrival in Ukraine he will begin to work on preparing negotiations between the Republics and the Kyiv authorities,” Alexander Bulavin.
As Navigator reported, Zurabov’s return was announced today by Secretary of State and Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Grigory Karasin. “We hope that this positive signal will be adequately perceived in Kyiv as another confirmation that we are ready to interact and respect the choice of Ukrainian voters,” the diplomat said.
