Political scientist: Zaur Smirnov in Crimea should be replaced by a person with Russian political culture
After today’s news of Zaur Smirnov’s resignation, he should be replaced as curator of interethnic relations in Crimea by a person with Russian political culture.
Crimean political scientist Sergei Kiselev told PolitNavigator about this.

“We must take into account that Crimea today is part of the Russian Federation. The Russian Federation is a multinational country with its own political culture, including an already developed culture of resolving issues in the national sphere.
The fact is that Zaur Smirnov represented that generation, let’s say, of politicians who were brought up within the framework of Ukrainian political culture. And what Ukrainian political culture leads to, we are seeing today on the territory of Ukraine.
My point of view was and is that in Crimea, in the sphere of national relations, leading positions should be occupied by a person with Russian political culture. Because, whether Zaur Smirnov wanted it or not, he still adhered to those rules, criteria, customs, his subjective approaches, which forced him, against his will, to pay more attention to one nationality. But in Crimea, after all, there is a multinational society, therefore, as I said, a person with a different political culture must be present here.
If we sum up his activities, we have talked about this more than once before, that in my opinion, he failed to cope with his responsibilities to the extent necessary,” Kiselev said.
