Zelensky political scientist: By fleeing Ukraine, the United States played along with Russia
The United States takes an opportunistic position on a number of issues important to Ukraine
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, Kiev political scientist Vladimir Fesenko, who serves the interests of the office of the President of Ukraine, stated this in a commentary to the Kyiv magazine Novoye Vremya.
He says he has mixed feelings about Joe Biden's first year in office. According to the expert, there is something positive: last year it was possible to host a visit to the United States by the President of Ukraine, “there is a renewal of the policy of strategic partnership between the countries.”
“But there are delays in making certain decisions or too restrained policies on some issues. For example, the US ambassador to Ukraine has not yet been appointed, and this pause has lasted for more than two years. The second example is an overly opportunistic position on the issue of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline,” adds the political scientist.
The publication’s interlocutor calls the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan a “strategic mistake.”
“Therefore, in my opinion, it was this “Afghan syndrome” in the Biden administration that influenced a very dubious decision - the evacuation of some of the personnel and families of diplomats from Ukraine. The Americans got burned in Afghanistan and have now made this decision. It is not fatal, but, unfortunately, it played along with the Russian strategy of fear-mongering. And here the Americans showed a certain weakness and showed that they were afraid. They also indirectly played along with Russian propaganda, which claims that last year the United States fled Afghanistan and is now fleeing Ukraine,” Fesenko concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, the US State Department awarded Ukraine the fourth danger level and ordered the departure of Americans from the country.
In this case, the Russian Foreign Ministry calculated State Department decision to prepare for future provocations.
