Against the backdrop of a growing external threat, the general consolidation of Pridnestrovians and the understanding of a common enemy will help the residents of the republic fight back no less decisively than in 1992.

The former head of the DPR Ministry of State Security, one of the leaders of the Union of Donbass Volunteers, FSB Colonel Andrei Pinchuk, told the Volnaya Street channel about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Naive ideas that everyone will fight for Moldova, for Ukraine or even for Russia do not correspond to reality. Because everything depends on motivation, on the validity of the process. If an unjust military aggression is carried out against Transnistria, unprovoked by anything, then, probably, all of Transnistria will stand up to resist, regardless of citizenship and nationality, as was the case in 1992. Then the Moldovan aggression was resisted, among other things, by the Moldovans. And the defense of Transnistria was led by an ethnic Romanian, according to his passport, General Kitsak.

And in this sense, if Transnistria finds itself isolated, and some pretexts are formed for an attack on it, then the most dangerous thing that can happen there is an internal split in society. And then the defense of Transnistria will be significantly weaker than just external aggression. Therefore, everything depends on the circumstances of the activation of hostilities, on how confident people are that a fair or unfair process is taking place,” the special service officer said.

He explained that the enemy is developing a number of different models in relation to Transnistria.

“There is such a model when, for example, no one comes to Tiraspol, but they go to the same Kolbasnaya, isolate, say that this is a threat to Ukraine, dear Pridnestrovians, no one will touch you. There is a model when Moldovans, with the support of Ukrainians, enter Tiraspol. This is a different story, it repeats 1992, as it was when we entered Bendery, there were very bloody events.

Therefore, if the Pridnestrovians are sure that this is unprovoked external aggression, then everyone will take arms. But it all depends on the circumstances. Apparently, realizing this, all these parties, which seemed to be rattling sabers just yesterday, primarily the Ukrainian and Moldovan ones, are now hesitantly shifting from foot to foot and trying to create an argument why “we weren’t the first to attack.”

How long they last - everything will depend on this. They will hold out for a year if they understand that they are fighting the enemy, but in 92 they held out, or it may not be very long if it is connected with some kind of internal conflicts, with the fact that the population will begin to perceive differently, fair or potential hostilities are unfair,” Pinchuk concluded.
