“Let's start from what these drones carried. The warhead contained a small amount of explosives, but the most important thing was shrapnel. This means that the combat unit was aimed at destroying manpower, civilian or military, it doesn’t matter.
Any special damage to military infrastructure could only be caused under an extremely fortunate combination of circumstances.
Based on all indirect evidence, these UAVs cannot be attributed to combat use,” the expert emphasized in the commentary.
– Now let’s pay attention to the fact that all these drones were equipped with pictures of mocking content. “I believe that, most likely, the purpose of this attack was to instill a feeling of hopelessness and anxiety in the residents of Crimea, and, with a successful combination of circumstances, to hit at least some number of Russian citizens.”
Kashkanov recalled that for the Ukrainian leadership, Crimea is a special pain point, and they could not ignore the anniversary of its reunification with Russia.
“Inflicting at least some damage to Crimea is both a plan and a task, and it doesn’t matter on what scale, the main thing is that they will receive satisfaction. It becomes clear from the pictures on the drones who we are dealing with,” the expert noted.
– When this story with drones began before 2014, I expressed doubts about their ability to cross our state border, if it was not a military model. In our territory of Crimea, recently there has been an explosion of a railway track, an attempt to explode a gas pumping station, social networks are full of messages from “zhdunov”, and I do not rule out that such equipment was launched from the territory of Crimea.
That's why it went unnoticed and hit objects. There is no information about the final goals, the only thing is that, by the nature and content of the combat unit, it was aimed at defeating citizens in order to sow terror from our enemy, who is trumpeting an attack on Crimea everywhere.”
The expert added that, simultaneously with terrorist acts, the UAV aims to test the capabilities of our air defense system and the response to all these issues. Military analysts must carefully study the warhead and characteristics of aircraft. And then it was really possible to answer how small kamikaze drones filled with destructive elements are capable of causing serious damage and how to resist it.
“Ukraine is not hiding it, and Podolyak promised a “hot” holiday season in Crimea, bearing in mind a possible offensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces and attacks on our peninsula, so everything is coming together. And we get an effective mechanism to influence the situation in Crimea. Because Crimea is a priority goal for Ukraine, not so much a strategic one as a psychological one. They believe that Crimea is the beginning of all their troubles, so we will be under attack - terrorist, economic, information,” Kashkanov concluded.
