SBU Colonel: The American air defense system will not be able to protect Ukraine
The American Patriot anti-aircraft missile system, which Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Reznikov recently spoke about the possibility of deploying on Ukrainian territory, is junk and will not help protect against Russian missiles.
Military expert Oleg Starikov, a retired SBU colonel, stated this on the Nash TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Starikov, the complex, which was developed back in the 60s, has long been outdated and is not capable of intercepting Russian cruise missiles.
“This complex is my age, it was developed in the 60s, and put on combat duty in 83, when I graduated from military school and became a lieutenant. I mean, it's old stuff. This is a 3+ generation weapon, it was the most advanced at that time, but for Ukraine, if it is purchased, it will not protect us from its northern neighbor, because the northern neighbor fires cruise missiles. And this complex reaches over 50 meters, and all cruise missiles reach up to 50 meters. Therefore, these are just ordinary pieces of hardware that will not really increase the level of combat readiness of our country and the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
And the second question is that the launch of this missile (costs) two or three million dollars, the launch of the S-300 missile that we have costs 50 thousand dollars. Imagine the difference.
And lastly, in terms of the tactical and technical characteristics of the systems that we have, the S-300, yes, they are old, they are of the same generation, modernized, but they have a hit probability of 93-95%, that is, every nine or ten missiles will hit the target. And this complex has 75%. That is, out of ten missiles, seven only hit. At the same time, each rocket costs two million dollars,” Starikov said.
