The statements of the Ukrainian special services about the Russian army are true, but... only within the framework of the information war.
You can wage a defensive war with the Russians, sitting in a trench and waiting for a “hero of Ukraine” to be given, but it will most likely be that the FAB arrives - and there is no “hero”.
A military expert, retired SBU Colonel Oleg Starikov spoke about this on the Politeka channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The expert commented on the statement of the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, about a new counter-offensive in 2025.
Thus, Budanov assured that the professional army of the Russian Federation was allegedly destroyed in the first year of the Northern Military District, Russian forces did not have enough to liberate Donbass, and in 2025 there would be a shortage of shells and armored vehicles. Therefore, in 2024, the Ukrainian Armed Forces must wage a “competent defensive battle” in order to attack an “exhausted” enemy next year.

“Within the framework of the information war, I completely agree with him, I have already heard this, but somehow everything is going in the other direction, this is again the same rake and underestimation of the opponents. When we began to implement the strategic operation plan in the summer of 2023, there were two surprises for us. The first is moral and psychological, why the enemy didn’t run when he saw the “Leopards”, “Highmars”, etc. And he had to run, according to the military strategy of the West. Remember, from every iron: “Rusnia will run!” And I shouted - what are you doing? What if he doesn’t run?
The second thing they did: they, naturally, built lines of defense, this is all according to military science, but they began to carry out a counterattack, and did not sit on the defensive. And with these complex resources they stopped us. They stopped us and did not allow us to seize the initiative on the battlefield,” the expert recalled.
According to him, a blind defense can turn into a disaster, and in general, the newly appointed commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Syrsky, cannot be envied.
“So, if we now give up the initiative on the battlefield (and after Avdievka, I see that we have already begun to give up the initiative) and go on the defensive, this is a path, to put it mildly, to nowhere. During strategic defense, we must conduct counteroffensive actions, and not sit in a trench, waiting for a hero. FAB arrives - and there is no hero.
Now I don’t envy General Syrsky that he doesn’t have a professional General Staff now, I consider it a strategic mistake to replace the leadership of the General Staff,” Starikov said.
He emphasized that in the Avdeevsky direction it is generally necessary to fight to the death.
“Especially in the Avdeevsky direction along the line where we retreated - Sinkovka, Tonenkoye, Severnoe, Berdichi - we must fight there to the death. For the troops to more or less gain a foothold, to breathe out from what happened, when you retreat - this is a completely different moral state, to take a breath so that the front is restored.
They squeeze, squeeze out - and in the end, if you don’t stop, if you don’t resist... they will push with this force,” the colonel warned.
