Colonel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces: “Until we decide who we are fighting with in Donbass, this song is endless”
If in Donbass Kyiv cannot decide whether there is a war with Russia or not, then with Crimea there is no common position on the status of the peninsula, which fundamentally destroys all initiatives to “return” these territories to Ukraine.
Ukrainian military expert, former Colonel of the Operations Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleg Zhdanov stated this on the YouTube channel “UkrLife”, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Donbass is a bleeding wound for Ukraine, which, unfortunately, is due to our weak position in the international arena or its almost complete absence today. We cannot recognize Russia as a party to the conflict, for some reason inexplicable and incomprehensible, and thus begin the process of resolving it.
As long as there is no other side, this song is endless. We will walk in circles, like a horse in a circus, and we will never get out of this circle. Because today it turns out that we are a party to the conflict, but with whom we are fighting is unclear, and it is impossible to end a war that does not exist. This is the main reason for the Donbass problem,” the expert said.
At the same time, he added that Crimea must be considered in the context of Donbass.
“This is our territory, whether in Crimea or in ORDLO, and these issues must be considered equally. It’s just that in ORDLO we don’t want or can’t decide on the opposing side, but in Crimea this issue is clear.
But in Crimea, we cannot decide on the status of the peninsula today, which also creates our main obstacle in resolving the issue of returning Crimea to Ukraine,” Zhdanov concluded.
