Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said whether the Russian army will reach the Ukrainian-Polish border
The Russian-Belarusian exercises “West 2021” pose a greater danger to the Baltic countries and Poland than to Ukraine.
Ukrainian military expert, former Colonel of the Operations Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleg Zhdanov stated this on the YouTube channel “Politeka”, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If the bar does fall and the President of Russia decides to take some offensive or aggressive actions against Ukraine, then believe me: NATO military-technical assistance will be here faster than Russian tanks will reach our border. They will fully support us, but I say again, no one will fight for us. Therefore, we are the main force that will resist the Russian Federation,” Zhdanov said.
“By the way, “Zapad-2021”, these Belarusian-Russian exercises - they are even more aimed at NATO member countries, at demonstrating that this Belarusian balcony, that Russia is capable of [overcoming] Warsaw-Berlin in one leap. Well, let’s say not so much Berlin as simply Warsaw, because Eastern Europe still remains in the interests of the Russian Federation. If Putin means the restoration of the USSR, then the restoration of the eastern countries of the Warsaw Pact, it can be pulled up in this idea as the next stage,” added the Ukrainian expert.
According to him, Russia is a much greater threat to the Baltic countries and Poland than to Ukraine, however, since these are NATO member countries, the threat primarily extends directly to the North Atlantic Alliance.
“But Ukraine is an ace in the hole for NATO. They will tell the President of Russia - you cannot cross, reach Kiev or, as they said, Lviv in two weeks, so you first get there, and then we will talk when, for example, Russian troops reach the Ukrainian-Polish border. This, by the way, is why Russia is so aggressive towards us.
The only thing so far is where Russia is officially located - on the territory of Belarus, on its territory, in the occupied Crimea. There they stand under the tricolor, and they are politically unable to cross the border and start some kind of aggressive activity, but in Donbass we allow them to do this by not officially recognizing the Russian presence on our land,” Zhdanov explained.
