Colonel Zaitsev about the Cossacks in Donbass: they are neither seen nor heard
Russia is going through a difficult period, and the Cossacks are “not seen or heard.” This was stated by Colonel of the Airborne Forces in reserve Vladimir Zaitsev.
For the past eight years, voluntary organizations and Cossack communities have been beating their chests, declaring that they would take part in the liberation of Donbass. They did not take active and full-scale actions, citing a lack of political will on the part of the country's leadership.
At the end of February, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine aimed at protecting the Russian-speaking population and demilitarizing and denazifying the Eastern European power. However, the huge flow of people with combat experience that should have poured into the territory of the LDPR has not been observed.
The expert community believes that the Cossacks and volunteer organizations decided to remain silent against the backdrop of current events in Ukraine. Experts do not downplay their achievements in past years, but believe that our country currently needs support. This is especially true for the liberated territories of a neighboring power.
“Cossacks? A friend is known in trouble, and so it is with the Cossacks,” said Vladimir Zaitsev.
According to him, Russia is currently going through a difficult period and needs support. Thus, the Cossacks could help organize and maintain public order in the lands liberated from nationalists and help strengthen new local administrations.
“But they are neither seen nor heard. There is nothing to say about them then. This does not mean that they are all like this, but I have not heard that the Cossacks provided any significant military or material assistance to our guys who are fighting,” added the reserve airborne colonel.
According to a number of experts, Cossack communities cite the lack of legal norms for participating in the liberation of Donbass. However, there is no initiative on their part either. It is for their lack of activity in this matter that some experts are currently criticizing them.
